Mural / 10ft x 25ft / Acrylic _ Painting / 48 x 90 (diptych) / Acrylic, Oil, Flashe / Wood Panel / THE CREATIVES PROJECT RESIDENCY EXHIBIT Oil and Acrylic / Wood Panel / 2017 - "inslumnational dieties" pulls from OutKast's "Bombs Over Baghdad" video. I created a similar fictitious landscape of bright vibrant psychedelic colors that impart feelings of joy and escape. My body of work is heavily influenced by James Baldwin's essay "Encounter on the Seine" where he describes the oscillating struggle of being African American, an amalgamated figure searching for place and history. I wanted to subvert the video vixen into a goddess to see her not as this degraded lascivious Hottentot accessible figure but to see the black woman’s body as a symbol of power that is deified. I created my own hybridity by collapsing old world primitive with the primal sensibilities of the hood. Using the Mursi tribe symbols of beauty and adornment such as lip plates, fruit and bones to exhibit an alternative to

My fascination with the imagery of traditional toile fabrics are re- expressed through the concerns I explore regarding contemporary climate in America. This work has led me to further explore the history of this pastoral narrative, which decorates the homes of many still today. These designs feature the struggles of African Americans amidst the often romanticized Southern landscape within a domestic context printed and painted as a wallpaper, a1950s style dress, tablecloth and a table setting and bring forward concerns about our progression as nation. Ode to Kathryn Johnston, Series. Artist Performance, Still, 933 Neal Street / From 2016 to 2017, I created a body of work which focused solely on the life story of Kathryn Johnston, a 92 year old African-American woman living in the Bluff district of Atlanta, GA. She was shot and killed by two rouge police officers in 2006. These officers entered her home at 933 Neal Street, with a contrived no knock warrant. Sense Kathryn's death her home has been vandalized and terrorized leaving little room for peace to return to her home and restoration for the neighborhood overall. The desire throughout this work, was to reclaimspace, time, and memory through paintings, performances, poetry, dance, song, and prayer.
