“Ode to Kathryn Johnston” is a still from a performance piece in 2016 that towers over 101 Marietta Street in Atlanta. The piece references the 2006 police shooting of 92-year-old native Atlantan Kathryn Johnston in her home. During the performance Gay sings, recites poetry, psalms and ritually walks the grounds to create restoration for a site that was disrupted by the untimely and unjustified shooting of the Atlanta elder.
